External and internal wastegate springs work the same way. You T off a boosted air source on each side of the wastegate diaphram. And use the boost solenoid to bleed off pressure on one. So this way the spring pressure + the pressure differential determine the desired amount of boost you want to run. The external and internal wastegate springs only determine the minimum boost. So it works opposite. If you want lower minimum boost, you change the springs, but if you want more, let the boost controller do the job.
